The giving of pure food, the first and most praised of the four daans.
Sponsors sattvik bhojan for the sangh on a festival day.
In Jain philosophy, ahar daan is considered the foremost of the four daans because it sustains the body that makes every other spiritual practice possible. Food offered to a muni, sadhu, or fellow devotee with a pure heart and without expectation of return is believed to generate great punya (merit) for the giver. At this kshetra, ahar daan takes the practical form of sponsoring the mahaprasad served to pilgrims and visiting sangh on festival days.
